Candidates
The DGCA reminds all candidates that by running for office, they are intending to be civil servants and they need to remember whom they will serve if elected. One of the greatest occurrences in this country is the peaceful transfer of political power - the successful candidate would do well to remain thankful for the faith placed in their candidacy by their supporters. Office holders must remain respectful of the electorate.
On April 7th, 2009 the residents of Downers Grove will again be given the chance to exercise their right to vote for candidates in several races including the Village Council, Park District and School Boards.
"While historically the DGCA has communicated the School Board Caucus endorsements, this year new groups are participating in the process instead of the School Board Caucus and we made a decision to focus our communication and limited resources on the DGCA caucus endorsed candidates for Village Council and Park District. While the School Board Caucus’ have well known and long standing processes that were accessible to all, current processes are not as well understood. DGCA Forums have always been open to the public and this year we’ve added podcasts of the interviews for the convenience of the citizens of Downers Grove. We believe such transparency is critical to the process. We welcome these new groups involved in endorsing school board candidates, and look forward to learning more about their process in the future so we may once again share resources in an effort to provide as much information as possible to the voter."
In the past, our endorsements were proudly displayed by each candidate on their respective websites. The Advocates will endorse and promote qualified candidates for Village Council and Park District.
Our efforts have been instrumental in the success of all of the Advocate endorsed candidates .
When the politicians complain that TV turns the proceedings into a circus, it should be made clear that the circus was already there, and that TV has merely demonstrated that not all the performers are well trained.
